With the new Centre des Technologies et des Sciences de la Santé (Technology & Health Sciences Centre), The Moncton Campus of the Université de Moncton sought a contemporary and progressive design that would respect and honor the architectural heritage of the campus’ existing buildings, while reflecting the state-of-the-art science and technology laboratories and research facilities housed within.

Facing the Moncton Campus’ newly created outdoor plaza, entry into the ‘Centre des technologies et des sciences de la santé’ via a grand canopy opens to spacious gathering spaces for students to meet, socialize, or internally circulate to three adjacent buildings using one of two ground level pedways, or an elevated skybridge.

The three-storied building features the campus’ notorious buff colored brick cladding fitting perfectly with the existing architectural style of the campus, but with a fresh contemporary feel. It is tempered with the use of modular aluminum composite panels, and its volume houses student social areas on two levels overlooking the exterior plaza through generous glazing. Recognized, value-added sustainable principles, and maximized use of natural daylight were incorporated to satisfy the desire for a sustainable, environmental-friendly building that could serve the Campus for years to come.
