The RAIC’s “Guide to Determining Appropriate Fees for the Services of an Architect” was developed by the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC) as a resource to help guide a fair exchange of value in establishing appropriate fees and scope of architectural services. NOTES TO RATES
- PRINCIPAL is defined as a principal owner of a firm and/or holder of certificate of practice acting in the following situations ONLY:
- Contract negotiation
- Use of Stamp: Work which shall requiring affixing a Stamp to:
- Working drawings issued for tender, construction, Fire Marshal approval, building permit and/or Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs)
- Any drawing or sketch produced during the course of tender or construction while modified the aforementioned documents and/or are part of addenda, change orders, specifications or clarifications
- Final specification issued for one of the proposed given in (i) or (ii)
- Progress Claims
- Substantial completion and Final completion certificates
- A Report authored by the firm.
- Interim inspection; substantial completion inspection
- Dispute requiring the presence of the principal
- Years Experience; Architects → After Registration
- Years Experience; Technicians/Technologists → After Graduation
- Hourly Rates have been calculated using typical salaries consistent with years of experience, the RAIC Canadian Handbook of Practice (CHOP), and the use of Billable hours.
- Billable Hours on assumption of a 7.5 hour Work Day as follows:

Eg. 1950 hours – 112.5 hours + 75 hours (2 weeks vacation) + 82.5 hours = 1995 Total Billable Hours
