Truth and Reconciliation Week is coming, but…

Truth and Reconciliation Week is coming, but…

 July 10, 2025

Here are some ways you can practice truth and reconciliation, both during TRW and throughout the year:

1. Register your class for the Truth and Reconciliation Week education portal if you’re a teacher (or if you know a teacher, send this to them!) for the upcoming school year.

2. Commit to listening and learning — make plans to attend Truth and Reconciliation Week Lunch and Learn programming (full program details coming soon!)

3. Listen to Indigenous Peoples when they share their truths — whether in person, through news, social media, podcasts, or books — during Truth and Reconciliation Week and throughout the year.

4. Attend Indigenous events and experiences in your area, including the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day. If you’re in the Ottawa area, head to Parliament Hill on September 30th, or watch the live national broadcast.

5. Donate to Indigenous foundations, non-profits, and charities to support the work they do for Indigenous Peoples in your community and across Canada, like the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation!

Truth and Reconciliation Week serves as a dedicated time to honour Survivors, their families, and the children who never returned home from residential schools, while also educating Canadians about this painful history and its ongoing impacts. However, true reconciliation requires continuous effort beyond one week a year. Commit to learning the truth and actively holding space for Indigenous voices all year, every year.
