Halifax Public Libraries invites INTERNAL and EXTERNAL applications for the full-time, permanent position of Manager, Space, Planning and Design located at the Alderney Gate Public Library. 

The Manager, Space, Planning and Design's responsibilities will be comprised of four major categories:

Project Planning

Reviews and audits current state of Library spaces, including identifies potential problems and recommends solutions

Researches best practices for design, accessibility, sustainability, service design, and other considerations for the Library's built environment

Develops design standards

Observes customer and staff use of Library spaces and makes recommendations for improvements as required

Builds relationships with staff, community partners and the public

Supports staff to improve the look and function of the Library spaces

Design

Prepares design recommendations and production of design drawings and documents for planning and construction purposes

Specifies and designs furniture, wayfinding, specialty millwork, etc.

Ensures that plans for design improvements align with the organization's goals and priorities

Project Management

Liaises with all internal and external stakeholders during project planning and implementation

Coordinates, schedules, and manages small to medium sized project budgets

Acts as a main point of contact for Facilities projects

Supports community engagement work

Staff Supervision

This position will be the direct supervisor for a number of Facilities staff
